Woke up at 6am, carefully cleaned and packed up camera gear, checked on SunCalc for the perfect spot to capture the perfect eclipse photo, headed down nice and early to scope it out… And waited… and waited… and waited… for the fog to clear! In the end there was so much cloud that we got nothing more than a very brief and almost non exisistant period of relative dullness.
But oh well, on the plus side, I made a silly photoshop meme out of the occassion and it went viral!
When I shared it on one of my facebook pages, it reached 8.5 million people in less than 24 hours, accumulating over 100,000 likes (at the time of writing this) and thousands of comments and shares. I guess a lot of other people could relate to the huge build up followed by a somewhat comical disappointment!
Oh well, it was good fun hanging out with family and friends and in the end the trip was worthwhile, for reasons that none of us really expected… And thankfully many other people captured some beautiful images of the eclipse from less obstructed parts of Europe.
Maybe next time!
